Best Sports Bars to Watch the New England Patriots Outside of Boston

With three Super Bowl titles in the last twelve years, you can guarantee that there are plenty of New England Patriots fans outside of Boston.  Today, we’ll be taking a look at the best and oldest Patriots watch party locations at sports bars across the nation.  If your city is not mentioned on this list, you can still locate where to watch the Patriots with other fans in your area by using the search feature on WhereToWatch.com.  Here are five of our favorite Patriots watch party locations across the country:

5. B.D. Riley’s Irish Pub & Restaurant – Austin, Texas

B.D. Riley’s in Austin is self described as a “home away from home” for Patriots fans in Texas.  Pats fans have been meeting here for twelve years, and they often have more than twenty-five New England fans for each game.  Not only does B.D. Riley’s guarantee that each and every Patriots game will be televised, they also have drink specials and often hold gameday give-aways.  There’s no doubt that these guys are serious about their Pats, they even have a newsletter and an entire page of their website dedicated to the Austin Patriots Fan Club!

4.  Sonny McLean’s Irish Pub – Santa Monica, California

Sonny McLean’s is a west coast bar with a New England vibe. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think you’re actually in Boston. As they say here, “Who says you’re 3000 miles away?”

Are we in Foxborough? Nope, Sonny McLean’s is an Irish pub located in Santa Monica, California and owned by Jim and Fran Conners, two transplanted Bostonians.  Sonny Mc’s is always packed with Patriots fans and they serve clam chowder and lobster rolls during the games.  For the 1:00 PM (Eastern) games, you can find fans there as early as 9:30 (Central) in the morning!  So if the Pats have an early game, don’t worry about breakfast, just grab a pint and watch the game with a bunch of displaced New England fans.

3.  Toso’s Sports Bar & Grill – Phoenix, Arizona

The Patriots Fan Club of Arizona has been getting together for over 15 years and they do it at Toso’s in North Phoenix.  The Pats fans that gather here are loud, proud, and most importantly organized.  With a group that boasts over 700 members, they have weekly raffles and Pats gear giveaways for members.  According to their website, Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his wife have even made it to one of their gatherings.  Talk about some true Patriots klout!

2. Professor Thom’s Bar & Restaurant – New York, NY

Professor Thom’s is a great Patriots bar in New York city.  It has a 41-foot bar, a large selection of draft beers, a second floor lounge with a private screening room, 17 flat-screen televisions, and a High-Definition Projector that only shows the Patriots during the games.  Professor Thom’s Boston affiliation is well known throughout New York and when the Pats are playing, this place packs out.  Just check out this video filmed at Thom’s about rooting for a team in enemy territory. Classic. As you can see, Professor Thom’s is also a great place in New York to watch Red Sox and Celtics games (as well as University of Michigan football).

1. Murphy’s Pub Alexandria – Alexandria, Virginia

Since the early 90′s, Patriots fans around the Washington D.C. area have been heading to Murphy’s to watch the Patriots play.  They describe the Patriots fans that frequent the bar as the “most die hard, energetic crew of fans that a football team could ever ask for.”

Patriots watch parties are generally held on Murphy’s second floor, which features a large projector screen that everyone can see, even when it’s packed with Pats fans.  And you can guarantee that they’ll always have the sound of the game, even when the Redskins are playing.  They also have numerous food and drink specials for Pats fans while the games are on.  The good people at Murphy’s said to show up early on game day because Pats fans pack this place out quickly.  No matter what time the Patriots play, Murphy’s will be open one to two hours before game time to allow for a little “indoor tailgating.”

Honorable Mention: Connecticut Yankee - San Francisco, California

Who would’ve ever thought that a bar named the “Yankee” would be a Patriots and Red Sox bar?  That’s exactly what we have in this divey-type bar located in San Francisco.  They even have menu items named after famous (or infamous) Sox, Celtics, and Patriots players, such as the Bill Buckner (roasted turkey) or the Bill Russell (a twist on the classic “hero” sandwich). I see what you did there.

American Social: A New York Giants Bar in Fort Lauderdale

It’s football season again and we’ve had numerous Giants fans contact us about getting them a great place to watch the Super Bowl champs in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this year.  We’ve got just the place.  American Social is an upscale sports bar that recently opened downtown on Las Olas Boulevard and is a perfect place for Giants fans to meet up on Sundays.

The tastefully decorated bar is about as close to an upscale New York sports bar that you’ll find in South Florida.

The bar is managed and partially owned by Paul Greenberg, a New York native who was snowbirding in Florida and never went back. Greenberg is about as big a Giants fan as you’ll meet and has rolled out the red carpet for the many yankees who reside in South Florida.  For all Giants game, the bar has numerous drink specials.  When the G-Men are on the big screen the sound of the game will be on, even during primetime football on Sunday afternoon, and even when the Dolphins are playing! Don’t get me wrong, the Dolphins will still be on the tube for you homers, but at this bar, when Eli’s poppin’, everything’s stoppin’.

Not to be outdone on Saturdays, “AmSo” also goes all out for Florida State football games.  Owners Rick Mijares and Greenberg both attended FSU and are as serious about Seminole football as they are about running a classy sports bar.  With all of the FSU alumni in South Florida, American Social is about the next best thing to hanging out at Doak Campbell Stadium as you’ll find on the east coast.  When the game is over, it’s not a bad place to hang out either, just check out the good looking crowd that frequents the place.

“Taps at the friggin’ table? Forgetaboutit!” – The NY accent sounds a lot better in person, I promise.

In addition to great drink specials, American Social also brings it in terms of food.  I stopped by and ordered the aptly named “American Social New Yorker,” a twist on the sandwich made famous in the Big Apple.  I’ve never had one in New York so I can’t compare, but believe me, it didn’t disappoint.  The bar has 14 Hi-def flat-screen TV’s, perfectly positioned to catch the game (or numerous games) from wherever you’re sitting.  The bar also has a unique twist that is a beer lover’s dream.  In addition to the 46 craft beers on tap, they have a rotating beer tap at their booths.  With the taps, you can serve yourself up to four different beers at a time, and you simply pay by the amount you drink (measured in ounces).  To be safe, you better call ahead and reserve the booths because they fill up quickly–the same as your icey cold glass will on game day.

If you’re looking for where to watch the Giants or other teams with fans at sports bars in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or anywhere else in the country, check out the search option on WhereToWatch.com.

If you have a large group of displaced sports fans in your city like the Giants fans discussed here, shoot us an email to info@WhereToWatch.com and we’ll get a watch party set up for your team.

Selecting the Best Bar for Your Watch Party

Choosing the best sports bar to start a watch party can be a difficult process. There is a variety of criteria that fans should look into when selecting the proper venue. Of utmost importance is the quantity of TV’s that a bar has. Whenever determining where to watch your favorite team, it’s preferable to visit bars that have a minimum of ten high-def televisions, depending on the size of the venue, of course. Should you have a sizable watch party, you’ll undoubtedly need a bar which could accommodate every one of the fans, so space might also be a difficulty.

Another major element is if the sports bar you’re considering will feature the sound of the game. Nobody likes attending their team’s watch parties with 70’s music blaring in the background instead of their team’s announcer. Also, nobody wants to be listening to the Bears game during an Eagles watch party. You’ll probably also need to know if the bar even features your particular game. Maybe your team is playing on an obscure channel, which you’ll want to look up so that you can determine where to watch your team, or if it’s even on an available channel. Some bars have channels that others don’t.

To get a handle on all these factors, you’ll want to call the bar in advance to see if any of your team’s fans are already watching the game there. Alternatively, and more preferable, is having someone in your watch party essentially make an appearance at the bar the week prior to the game. By way of example, Pittsburgh Steelers watch parties are already happening in the majority of towns around the nation, so you can probably just join a watch party that’s already taking place and won’t have to start your own. So, by visiting the bar prior to your game, you might find that there’s currently a Steelers watch party taking place.

In addition, you’ll want to consider what teams that bar supports. You don’t want to go to a Packers bar or a Giants bar when you’re searching for a Seahawks bar. The purpose of starting up a watch party is having all your team’s fans in a single. When determining where to watch a team like the Steelers, attempt a key word search like “where to watch Steelers” and enter in the name of the area. You’ll likely find a Steelers bar near you showing your team. Whoever you speak to at the sports bar will probably be able to answer this as well.

Determining just the right bar to start your own watch party doesn’t take just as much effort as you may think, but it takes some time. So, when identifying where to watch your favorite team, make sure you consider: the quantity of TV’s a bar has, whether the bar is going to have the sound of your game, whether or not the bar gets the channel you’re looking for, and if your team or any other team has already been holding watch parties at that bar. As mentioned, doing a good keyword search for where to watch your selected team can also be useful also. Best of luck in locating or starting a watch party for your favorite team. If all else fails, just check out our website and see if your team already has a watch party.  We’re adding teams and bars daily, so keep checking back.
